Detention invoices with the proof attached and your remit-to on top

GetDockPay is a detention app for owner-operators, leased-on drivers and small fleets. The driver taps each step at the shipper or receiver, and the app builds a detention invoice with the time record, the math, a map of the stop and links to the BOL photos. When a driver factors, your remit-to details print on it. We don't factor, and we don't buy or fund invoices.

Why detention needs a record

Detention is common, and much of it goes unpaid. ATRI's 2024 detention study found drivers were detained at 39.3% of stops. Fleets billed detention only 75% of the time, and only 55% of those invoices were paid. Before they pay, brokers generally ask for proof of the times: GPS time stamps, in and out times on the BOL, and a detention request on file. The app puts that paperwork together as the stop happens, so your client isn't rebuilding it from memory days later.

What's on every invoice

Here's part of one, from a demo stop in the app:

Time record and charges from a GetDockPay detention invoice: appointment 12:00 PM, arrived 12:00 PM, departed 5:03 PM, 2 hours free, 3.05 billable hours at $75 an hour, total $229
A real invoice from a demo stop (the names are made up): 5 h 3 min at the facility, 2 h free, 3.05 billable hours at $75 an hour = $229.
  • Your remit-to line. The driver enters it once under Profile → Edit Profile → Remit payment to (the field's own example names a factoring company). It prints at the top of every invoice, next to the carrier's name, address and MC/USDOT.
  • The bill-to party and the load. The broker, or the carrier for a leased-on driver, plus the load or reference number, BOL number, rate con number, the facility and its address, and the shipper.
  • A time record that says where each time came from. Appointment: entered by the driver from the rate confirmation. Arrival: GPS-stamped by the app. Check-in, at the dock and loading or unloading complete: driver-stamped in the app. Departure: time-stamped by the app.
  • The math. Total time at the facility, the free time and when it started, billable detention calculated to the minute, the hourly rate and the total.
  • The terms and the notice. Whether the detention clause was confirmed on the rate confirmation, and when the driver notified the bill-to party before free time ran out, if they did.
  • The evidence. A map of the stop with the phone's GPS positions, each linked to Google Maps, and links to the BOL photos. With Pro, the driver can attach the ELD log for the day, listed as "ELD log".

Each invoice also states that detention is billed as an accessorial under the rate confirmation, and that the carrier will provide the underlying record on request.

How it gets to you

Sending is the driver's call. On every plan, the driver can export the invoice PDF from the app and send it to you the way they send you other paperwork: email, text or your upload portal. The app can also email the invoice to the bill-to party, with your remit-to line on it. That's a Pro feature, and a free account's first send is included.

GetDockPay doesn't send records to factoring companies on its own. Drivers choose what to share.

Co-write a guide

A short guide for your carrier blog or newsletter on getting detention paid: what the rate con needs to say, what to record at the shipper or receiver, and what to send you.

Tell us how you handle detention

Do you advance detention billed on the invoice, or linehaul only? What proof do you need? If the broker never pays it, is it charged back? Do accessorials slow approval? Your answers shape what we tell drivers who factor.

Questions factors ask

Does GetDockPay factor invoices?

No. GetDockPay LLC makes the app. We don't factor, buy invoices or advance money, and we don't take a cut of a driver's detention pay.

Will the app contact brokers on invoices we've purchased?

Only if the driver sends the invoice from the app. Then the bill-to party gets the invoice by email, with the remit-to line the driver entered. With Pro, up to three reminders follow on day 3, 7 and 14, unless the driver marks the claim paid or denied first. A driver who sends paperwork through you can export the PDF and send it to you instead.

Who controls the records?

The driver. Stops and invoices stay in the driver's account, and the driver decides what to send and to whom. GetDockPay doesn't send records to factoring companies, and we don't sell personal information (privacy policy).

What does the app cost your carriers?

Free Download. No credit card required. The free plan logs stops with GPS stamps, does the detention math, keeps the BOL photos and builds the invoice PDF. Pro is $24.99 a month or $239.99 a year and adds features such as the app emailing the invoice (a free account's first send is included) and the follow-up notices. See pricing.

Driving for yourself and using a factor?

Put your factor's details under Profile → Edit Profile → Remit payment to. They print on your invoice. Then ask your factor how they handle detention: some advance only what's on the rate con, so a revised rate con that includes detention helps. More in the FAQ.
